** Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab Review & Giveaway **

Encouraging a love for learning is something I’m hugely passionate about. I firmly believe that a love for learning helps opens doors to a brighter future. It is for this reason, I spend a lot of time and effort finding new ways to engage the boys in various different forms of learning. Learning Resources have this same ethos in mind and produce a great range of products that inspire young minds to develop a love for learning. Recently Learning Resources sent us their new Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab to Review and we’ve been having lots of fun with it creating a range of reactions.

The Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab is really easy to piece together and once assembled looks like a film inspired science lab. Bear was so excited to get work and start with his science experiments.

Cosmo Colours experiment

We started our afternoon of reactions with colour mixing. I poured water into the two beakers provided. Bear and Monkey then mixed in different food colourings to created the coloured water. The boys took it in turns to use the hydroplungers to transport the liquids and push them through the tubes, into the beaker attached to the Super Lab.

This was such a fun take on a traditional science experiment. We spent some time discussing what colours we thought the two colours would make and looked at one of of our colour mixing books to help us predict what colour would emerge. Having two hydropumps in the Liquid Reactor Super Lab Set meant that the boys could work together on experiments, taking it in turns pushing the hydropumps.

Beaker Creatures experiment

Once we had mixed the different coloured liquids together, Bear used the tongs provided in the Super Lab set to place one of the Beaker Creature Pods into the colour mixture. Bear loved watching the mixture fizz and change colour again.

As the Pod fizzed and melted away, the mixture became quite cloudy and resembled the volcano activity we did using the Learning Resources Primary Lab Set. The cloudy misture made it a little tricky to find the creature released from the egg, but personally I thought this extended the activity and encouraged Bear to use his fine motor skills by opening and closing the tongs while trying to find the Beaker Creature.

Our thoughts on the Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab

The Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab is such a great addition to their already impressive line of products. The item we were sent was missing a drip tray, which meant there was a lot of spillage, but we just laid the Super Lab on some towels and kitchen paper which helped control the mess.

There are a range of experiments the Liquid Reactor Super Lab can be used for, including ‘creating a whirlpool’ and ‘Deep Blue Sea’.  The leaflet that comes with the set describes these in an other worldly context, but they can also be used to open discussion about our own planet. The ‘Deep Blue Sea’ experiment is about the separation of oil and water, which could be used to discuss issues of oil spills and the detrimental impact they have on ecosystems where these occur.

Bear loved playing with the Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab and it has really helped spark an interest in science. Although our set was missing the drip tray, we had a great time doing experiments. We also found that the set was great for encouraging teamwork as there are two hydroplungers and two beakers, meaning the boys could take it in turns to do different parts of the experiment. Bear has asked for extra Reactor Pods (which can be purchased separately) so he can do the Beaker Creature experiment again and is looking forward to our next science experiments afternoon.

The Learning Resources Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab retails at £25.00 and is for ages 5+.
