We’ve been teaching the boys about the importance of being a global citizen, to show them that it our responsibility to protect our planet and help others where we can. It’s been a process of making small changes, from changing our cosmetics to cruelty free to reducing our plastic waste and now we are looking into our shopping habits and are sourcing more of our clothing from companies who support fair trade. This lead us to finding Kariki Studio, an independent children’s clothing company who is passionate about fair trade and giving back.
Kariki Studio was created by Susannah, who spent a large part of childhood in Kenya. Susannah wanted to create a brand that focused on benefiting the economy in Sub Saharan African countries, which lead her to forming a partnership with Mantis World. Mantis World is an English company working with Sunflag factory in Arusha, Tanzania, which is a fair-trade factory that provides sustainable jobs. As well as being passionate about fair trade, Susannah is also passionate about giving back and gives 10% of all sales to Limuri Children’s Centre in central Kenya, which is a safe and nurturing home for orphaned and abandoned babies.
Susannah’s link to Africa not only inspires a passion for supporting the economy in Sub Saharan African countries, but is also the muse for the unique designs on the Kariki Studio products. I’ve always been a fan of children’s clothing companies that create playful designs that capture the simplicity and playfulness of childhood and Kariki Studio does just that.
Our thoughts on Kariki Studio
Bear is our little eco warrior in the making and is always talking about things we can do to save polar bears, so it seemed only fitting that we bought a Fozzie the Polar Bear t-shirt from the Kariki Studio collection for him. He loved it so much that he wanted to wear it to our teddy bears picnic in the forest.
Kariki Studio products are made form organic cotton which is better for the environment and means the cotton is high quality, perfect for little explorers who spend their time learning about the world around them and getting grubby as they do so.
I love how hard wearing the t-shirt is and it means that regardless of how much adventure the boys have, their Fozzie the Bear t-shirt will stand the test of time and be able to go on their adventures with them. As much as I love the range of products by Kariki Studio, the level of care and thought into how the brand can give back is what makes me love this brand so much. From the transparent supply chain and passion for fair trade to supporting amazing charitable work in Kenya, this is a brand that really cares about making the world a better place.
