Bear has such a wonderful imagination and just like his mum, he loves making up and telling stories. Watching him creating entire scenes and scenarios with his toys is amazing and we often see him reenacting day to day things that he experiences in his life. We were recently sent the Sylvanian Families Ice Cream Shop to review, which meant Bear could mix two of his favourite things… storytelling and ice cream!
Recently we spent a few days in Rome, where Bear got to enjoy a lot of ice cream! Our little Sylvanian Families ice cream shop arrived just before we left for Rome, so it sat on the table untouched until we got home. He must have taken in the whole experience of buying so much ice cream while on our trip because he soon set about creating a wonderful little scene, “The chocolate mint goes well with white chocolate Miss. Rabbit and I thinks the pink one for the baby.” Too cute!
One of the things I love most about the seaside ice cream shop is that the ice cream actually fits in the serving scoop, making it easier to stack up the ice creams on the cone. It makes the ice cream shop really interactive and means the play is a lot more life like.
On the back wall of the shop is a large ice cream cone with a rotating top, Bear loved this feature and sat his Sylvanians in there.
The Sylvanian Families are now connectable, which I think is an amazing feature and gives the chance for growing collections to become interlinked towns. This leaves so much room for creative storytelling. Which sets connect to one another vary, but leaflets do come with the sets that highlight which ones can connect together.
We’ve had such a great time playing with the Sylvanian Families ice cream shop and it has made a great addition to our ever growing Sylvanian Families village. Bear recently started ‘Sylvanian tours’ with my old Sylvanian Families canal boat and the ice cream shop is a great stop. Like the Cosy Starter Home, this is a smaller set perfect for testing the water to see how a child gets on. Although I love Sylvanian Families and think they are really wonderful toys, I would like to see more diversity in the sets, with the female figures wearing trousers and tops. Children are incredibly perceptive to the messages sent via marketing and toys, so I think it is important to promote equality in toys in order to have a more rounded and equal future.
The Ice Cream Shop comes with: The ice cream shop, An ice cream counter, crockery, Sylvanian ice cream, a seesaw sofa, a small round table, two stools, and a cat figure.
The Sylvanian Families Ice Cream Shop is for ages 3+ and retails at £29.99.
