** Thomas and Friends My First All Around Sodor playset review **

All Around Sodor interactive train set review

Oliver loves trains. We spend hours making train sets around the living room and lately he has been asking to read the Thomas and Friends books before bed. So when an email popped into my inbox about trialling the new Thomas and Friends All Around Sodor playset, I of course said yes.

The set is really easy to set up and only takes a couple of minutes, which is handy when all the children want to do is get on with the playing. The track is made up of seven coloured pieces, which slot together quite easily in a figure of eight shape. As well as the track, the All Around Sodor playset includes Thomas (he requires 2 x AAA batteries), an empty truck and two barrels for Thomas to move between Cranky the crane and Tidmouth sheds.

Thomas himself has three buttons; a blue one which makes Thomas go and stop, a green one which makes Thomas stop when he reaches Cranky the crane and a yellow one to make Thomas stop when he reaches Tidmouth sheds. My two are just beginning to fight over toys, so this feature has been fantastic for encouraging sharing. Oliver was in charge of pushing the button to send Thomas to the sheds and I helped Elijah push the button to send him back to Cranky the crane.

Thomas is interactive, so he talks as he goes around the track and then has little conversations either with Cranky or the other trains at Tidmouth Sheds. As well as the 50 sounds and phrases, Thomas’s eyes and mouth move which really brings him to life and makes the set so much more interactive.

Oliver loves loading and unloading the barrels onto Thomas’s truck, he realised that Cranky the crane knocks one of the barrels off the docking tower and into Thomas’s truck and we now have a great narration of “CRASH” every time he plays with the set.

The Verdict:

This is one of the most played with toys in the house and we have lots of fun with it on rainy days. When the batteries are running low Thomas does goes get a bit slow going over the bridge and can derail slightly, but once you change the batteries he runs right as rain again. The boys have absolutely love playing with this set, Oliver is often putting his matchbox car or his Paw patrol pups into the back of the truck for a day out with Thomas, so this All Around Sodor set gets a lot of use. It comes highly recommended from us.
